Jupiter Oxy-Combustion and Integrated Pollutant Removal (IPR) Test Facility

Jupiter Oxy-Combustion

Summary: Jupiter Oxygen Corporation has developed and constructed a 15 MWth oxy-fired burner pilot test facility in their Hammond Indiana research facility, to demonstrate Jupiter Oxygen’s high flame temperature oxy-combustion technology and NETL’s Integrated Pollution Removal (IPRTM) technology. The IPRTM system is a staged approach to CO2 capture and removal of other pollutants. The 15 MWth boiler began firing coal with oxygen in August 2008 and completed its work in cooperation in December 2012.

Guohua Jinjie CCS Full Chain Demonstration

Summary: Shenhua (China Energy Group) Guohua Jinjie Energy is planning the development of a demonstration-scale CCS facility retrofitting to the Unit 1 of the 4X600 MWe subcritical coal-fired air-cooled units in the Guohua Jinjie coal fired power plant in Shaanxi, China. Two CO2 capture systems are currently in evaluation: a chemical absorption (solvent) system at the CO2 capture capacity of 150,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) and a solid adsorption testing system at the CO2 capture capacity of 1,000 tpa. The captured CO2 will be transported via tanker truck to the existing CO2 injection site in Chenjiacun field in Inner Mongolia.

PetroChina Changqing Oil Field EOR CCUS

Summary: CO2 enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR)  has been studied since 2000s in Changqing Oil Field in the Ordos Basin, Shaanxi Province, China. In July 2017, PetroChina Changqing Oil Field Company scaled up its CO2-EOR injecting capacity to 50,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). The demonstration operation is moving forward to the next phase to reach 100,000 tpa. Cumulative CO2 storage of 370,000 tonnes was reached after 15 years of operation.
