Spectra Energy's Fort Nelson CCS Project
The Fort Nelson natural gas processing plant in British Columbia, Canada, has been in operation since 1964 and is one of the largest sour gas processing facilities in North America. The inlet gas in the Fort Nelson area contains CO2 (12 per cent for Horn River Shale). The Project would capture 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 per annum and transport it for storage into a nearby deep saline formation at a depth of around 2 km below ground. Geological and technical feasibility analyses are continuing and Spectra Energy is pursuing a number of avenues to commercialise the project. For more information, please see here.
